(COLUMBIA, MO) - Beginning Monday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m., Capital Paving, contractors for the City of Columbia Public Works department, are scheduled to perform overnight mill and overlay pavement maintenance on East Broadway and Hitt Street.

The mill and overlay process involves first milling off the top of the pavement surface and then applying a layer of asphalt. Crews plan to start by milling East Broadway between Seventh Street and 10th Street. Once complete, they will then mill Hitt Street between East Broadway and Rollins Street.

The milling process on both streets is expected to take a total of two nights to complete. Once milling is complete, crews will overlay the new asphalt. Striping is expected to take place the following week.

Temporary street closures will be required. Traffic control signs and flaggers will be present to divert traffic around work zones as needed. M
otorists and pedestrians should use caution in work zones and find alternate routes if possible.

Please refrain from parking your vehicles on any streets with "no parking" signs on the dates and times listed. Crews are scheduled to work nightly from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and any vehicle parked overnight in work areas is liable to be ticketed or towed. Downtown residents are reminded that free parking is available year-round in any City parking garage between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. in both the hourly and permit sections.

Overnight maintenance on the listed streets is scheduled to be completed by Friday, Aug. 11 at 7 a.m., weather permitting. The exact timing of this work schedule is subject to change due to impacts from weather or other unforeseen factors. If any changes occur, Public Works will provide updates to residents via social media.
