<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - On Aug. 18 the Columbia Board of Education voted to approve the school resource officer (SRO) contract with the City of Columbia. It will next be introduced at the Columbia City Council's meeting on Monday, Aug. 21 and voted on Tuesday, Sept. 5.<br /><br />As Columbia Police recognize the significant role that SROs play in the community, CPD has been working with CPS to ensure the review process for the contract has a minimal impact on SROs’ presence in Columbia Public Schools. The Department will have SROs in Battle, Rock Bridge and Hickman High Schools on the first day of school.<br /><br />"We’ve planned since the end of last year for SROs to continue to be in schools and we’ll continue to staff that as intended while the contract makes it through the formal approval process," said Interim Columbia Police Chief Matt Stephens.</div>
