(COLUMBIA, MO) - The City of Columbia is currently accepting applications for its Fall 2023 Civic Academy.

The City’s Civic Academy is a free, eight-session interactive program that provides insight to local government services and operations and offers opportunities for civic engagement in the city.

The sessions are held each Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. from Sept. 28 through Nov. 16, 2023. Dinner is available beginning at 5:30 p.m. for each session.

During the eight sessions, participants will receive an overview of city government and its operations. They will also receive presentations from various City departments, tour facilities, and participate in simulations of public safety equipment. The final week of this program will highlight Boone County government operations and elections.

Over the course of eight Thursday evening sessions, parti
cipants will increase their knowledge of the City of Columbia and its services. Applications for the City’s third Civic Academy are open now, and will be accepted until full. Participants will be selected on a first come, first served basis.

Civic Academy is open to Columbia residents 18 years or older. The program is free, but enrollment is limited to 20 participants.

"We’ve seen a lot of interest in the Civic Academy program which launched last fall. I’m thrilled there has been such a huge interest in this program. It shows just how eager residents are to learn about their local government and staff is just as eager to engage with the community we serve," Columbia City Manager De’Carlon Seewood said. "Civic Academy gives residents an opportunity to learn about the day-to-day operations of city government. This is also a great opportunity to meet other like-minded individuals as well as learn about volunte
er opportunities in the city."

Visit CoMo.gov/civic-academy/ to apply.

To request a paper application please contact Assistant City Manager Carol Rhodes at 573.874.7219 or Carol.Rhodes@CoMo.gov.
