<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The City Council will discuss and vote on a resolution of support for an affordable housing initiative by the Columbia Housing Authority (CHA) at the Sept. 18 City Council meeting. The resolution will include support from the City Council for CHA to move forward with the Providence Walkway project, as well as a tentative commitment to allocate $3 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, contingent on receipt of tax credits and other necessary funding. <br /><br />The Columbia Housing Authority is applying to be considered for 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) from the Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC) for its Providence Walkway project. That application process includes information about support for the proposed development from the City. <br /><br />The project is part of CHA’s affordable housing initiative and includes the redevelopment of 50 dwelli
 ng units in 15 buildings on the east side of Providence Road near Park Avenue. The existing housing units were originally constructed in 1964. CHA seeks funding to construct new, modern, energy-efficient affordable housing to replace the existing units. <br /><br />"Affordable housing is a top priority for the City and its residents," City Manager De’Carlon Seewood said. "We are excited to express support for projects like this one that will help remove barriers to housing for our residents."<br /><br />In other business, on Monday night the City Council will consider expressions of support for the development of three additional projects that will provide affordable housing for seniors and families within the city. The Columbia Square and Claudell Homes project proposes to rehabilitate 175 existing housing units while the Spartan Pointe II and Gentry Estates III projects seek to add 48 family housing units and up to 50 senior 55+ housing units,
  respectively. </div>
