<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia Police investigate fatality crash on US Highway 63 Sept. 21, 2023</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">At approximately 6:58 p.m. Sept. 21, first responders were dispatched to US Hwy 63 near the 63 Connector and I-70 overpass for a reported traffic collision involving one vehicle, its driver and two passengers.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The incident resulted in two fatalities. The driver, Giovanny Ezequiel Blanco Rodriguez, 21, of Columbia was pronounced deceased at the scene. A backseat passenger, Abran Ramirex Morales, 27, of Columbia was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased due to his injuries. Next of kin for both Mr. Rodriguez and Mr. Morales have been notified, and we extend our condolences to their families and friends.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A frontseat passenger was injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Through their investigation, CPD’s Traffic Unit determined that a 2006 Mazda Tribute containing the driver and two passengers was traveling north in the driving lane of US Highway 63. The vehicle lost control, traveled into the passing lane, continued into the median, crossed over the southbound lane of US Highway 63 and came to rest on the west side of the roadway on its top, with all wheels up.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">All occupants were ejected from the vehicle.  None wore a seatbelt.</span></p>
<br />
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We are grateful for all agencies that responded to this incident, including MODOT maintenance crews, University of Missouri EMS and the Columbia Fire Department (CFD). CFD responded with three fire companies, a safety officer, and a chief officer. Three EMS units responded to the incident, and two transported patients to the hospital with the assistance of Columbia Fire.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Please drive carefully. Always obey traffic signals, buckle your seatbelt, keep your phone down and keep your eyes on the road. If you see anyone driving erratically or dangerously, either pull off the road to call or have a passenger call 911. Our thanks to everyone who helps keep our community safe.</span></p>
