(COLUMBIA, MO) -
City of Columbia Solid Waste Utility residential curbside customers will be able to make their roll cart selections beginning the week of Oct. 2.

Customers will receive a postcard in the mail with a unique verification code. Using that verification code, customers can log onto ColumbiaMo.rehrigvision1.com or call 573.874.CITY (2489) to make their cart selection.

To provide the best possible service to customers, Solid Waste is transitioning to automated collection beginning March 4, 2024. Automated collection allows Solid Waste to increase the efficiency of collection while improving safety for workers.

Customers should select the size of their refuse cart based on the volume they think they’ll generate each week. The 65-gallon cart will hold the equivalent of two of the City-provided black trash bags. Customers who regularly have placed more than two City bags at the curb should request a larger cart.

There is no charge for the cart itself; however, customers’ monthly rates are determined based on the size of the cart. For example, a customer who uses a 65-gallon cart will be charged $17.37, meaning there will be no change to the customer’s monthly bill. Charges for smaller or larger carts are proportionate to the size of the cart.

A 35-gallon cart will hold two to three standard kitchen trash bags. Customers using 35-gallon carts will have a rate of $12.87 per month.

A 65-gallon cart will hold five to six standard kitchen trash bags. Customers using 65-gallon carts will have a rate of $17.37 per month (the current rate).

A 95-gallon cart will hold seven to 10 standard kitchen trash bags. Customers using 95-gallon carts will have a rate of $22.50 per month.

Customers will have until Oct. 31 to make their selection. Customers who do not make a selection will receive a 65-gallon cart.

Refuse carts are scheduled to be delivered throughout February 2024, and customers will start placing them curbside for use the week of March 4, 2024.
