<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px; margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia Fire Department responds to an overnight house fire with one fatality in the 10 block of Scott Blvd, Jan. 30.</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display: inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">On Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 8:04 p.m., the Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to the 10 block of Scott Blvd. after several 911 callers reported a duplex on fire.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The first crew arrived in approximately five minutes to a one-story duplex: smoke and fire were visible from the rear of the structure. The first crew deployed a preconnected hose line to quickly knock down the fire and slow its spread into the additional threatened spaces. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As more personnel and equipment arrived, they established a water supply from a nearby fire hydrant. Additional fire crews conducted search and rescue operations inside the home. During initial firefighting and search operations, crews located one victim inside the home and immediately removed them to the safety of the front yard, where medical care was provided by fire and EMS crews. The victim was transported in critical condition to a local hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, after treatment at the hospital, the victim succumbed to their injuries.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">During the incident, one cat was also found deceased inside the home.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Columbia Fire Department's Fire Marshal's Division was called to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. Due to the ongoing investigation of the fire, no further information will be released at this time.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">15 crews comprising 23 Columbia Fire Department personnel, three University Hospital and Boone Health advanced life support EMS crews, and an EMS supervisor responded to this incident. Columbia Fire Department Fire Marshals investigated the incident with the assistance of officers from the Columbia Police Department. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms should be placed on the ceiling (or on a wall no closer than four inches from the ceiling) on every level of your home and outside of places where people sleep. Check your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button. Change your smoke alarm batteries at least twice per year when adjusting your clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Replace any smoke alarm over 10 years old.</span></p></div>
