<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">City of Columbia Fire Chief Clayton Farr Jr. to retire April 1, 2024</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Columbia Fire Chief Clayton Farr Jr. will retire from the City of Columbia effective April 1, 2024, after more than 25 years with the Columbia Fire Department (CFD). <br /><br />Farr has worked in fire and emergency services for 34 years and has been with the Columbia Fire Department since 1998. During his time at CFD, he has worked as a firefighter, assistant fire marshal, lieutenant, battalion chief, division chief/shift commander, assistant fire chief and interim fire chief. In 2022 Farr began in his capacity as fire chief.<br /><br />Throughout his career he has also worked as a fire investigator for the Columbia Police Department, Boone County Sheriff's Office and the Southern Boone County Fire Protection District, and he has assisted the Mid-Missouri Bomb Squad since its inception more than 15 years ago.<br /><br />"I owe a true debt of gratitude to City Manager Seewood for allowing me t
 his incredible opportunity to serve our community," Farr said. "It has been the honor and privilege of my lifetime to serve the community I call home and the fire department I love. I have tremendous respect for our organization's distinguished past and have high expectations for a very bright future."<br /><br />During Farr's tenure as chief, Fire Station 11 opened in the southside of Columbia and work began on the new Fire Station 10 in the City's east-central corridor. The Department also achieved accredited agency status from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, one of only 312 agencies in the world to have this distinction.<br /><br />Other highlights include achieving accreditation status with the Missouri Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, addressing ways to enhance CFD's response time to medical calls for service and enhancing recruiting efforts, including hiring 24 new firefighters.<br /><br />"Clayton has proven to be an effective leader during his
  time as fire chief," City Manager De'Carlon Seewood said. "Under his leadership, the Columbia Fire Department has continued to uphold the standards and quality community members expect, which is proven by the track record of accomplishments we have seen during his tenure. I am confident he is leaving the Department in a good position for continued progress."</div>
