(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Boone County Overdose Response Coalition, in collaboration with Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS), is holding a town hall meeting Tuesday, March 12, at 6:45 p.m. at the Hickman High School Commons, 1104 N. Providence Road. The purpose of the town hall is to engage the community in discussion about the ongoing drug overdose crisis and gather feedback to address the public health emergency.

Doors will open for the meeting at 6 p.m. for people attending to explore community resource tables. All attendees will receive a supply of naloxone at no cost. Naloxone or Narcan® is a nasal spray that can reverse an opioid overdose. A brief training on the use of naloxone and fentanyl test strips will follow at the end of the town hall meeting at 8:15 p.m. The community is asked to park on the west side of the building and use the west entrance.

"It
is a common misconception that overdoses only happen in certain parts of the city," Columbia Police Chief Jill Schlude said. "In reality, overdoses occur in every neighborhood in our community, not just certain areas. This town hall is a way we can come together to hear all the voices impacted by this crisis and raise awareness that this is a communitywide problem that requires a communitywide solution."

The Coalition aims to briefly outline collaborative efforts to curb overdose deaths and lessen the impact of substance use in Boone County. Then to foster a meaningful dialogue with the community, those attending the event will be able to comment, ask questions, and share experiences and ideas with a panel of local leaders.

The event is free and open to the public. No registration is required. Snacks will be provided. Powerhouse Ministries is working to arrange transportation. For a ride, email <a style="white-space:nowrap" href="mailto: colu
