(COLUMBIA, MO) -
The City of Columbia will host an interested parties meeting Thursday, March 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the McKinney Building, 411 E. Broadway.

The McKinney Building is among 24 locations in Columbia commemorated with informational markers along the African American Heritage Trail. Located at 411 E. Broadway, the century-old building has functioned as a jazz venue, candy store, shopping outlet and African American community center, among other things.

The City of Columbia purchased the McKinney Building in August 2023. The Mayor’s Task Force on McKinney Building Planning is now gathering feedback from the community and will use that input to recommend a plan for the building's use to the City Council. The Task Force comprises 15 members appointed by the Mayor who represent diverse community industries, including experts in Columbia's local history, music studies and downtown businesses.

During the meeting, the public will be able to view the space, learn more about its history, provide feedback on potential uses for the building and speak with task force members about the project. More information on the McKinney Building can be found online at BeHeard.CoMo.gov/the-future-of-the-mckinney-building. There will be additional opportunities for public feedback as the project progresses.
