<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The City of Columbia has named Michael Arnhart as acting fire chief of the Columbia Fire Department (CFD). Arnhart will step into the role beginning April 1 and remain in the role until the fire chief position is filled permanently. <br /><br />He has served at CFD since July 2021 as the Department’s chief training officer. <br /><br />"Arnhart has years of experience in fire service as a leader," City Manager De’Carlon Seewood said. "His relevant experience and familiarity with the Columbia Fire Department and the community will allow CFD to maintain its exceptional service. I am appreciative that he is stepping into this temporary role, and I am confident in his ability to lead the Department while we search for our next fire chief."<br /><br />Prior to working at the City of Columbia, Arnhart served as fire chief of the Antonia Fire Protection District i
n Barnhart, Missouri. He has also worked for the High Ridge Fire Protection District as fire chief, deputy chief, fire marshal and firefighter. Prior to working at the High Ridge Fire Protection District, Arnhart worked as an instructor at the University of Missouri Fire and Rescue Training Institute and the St. Louis County Fire Academy. <br /><br />"I am excited to step into this role to allow continuity for employees of the Fire Department and for the future of the Department as our next chief comes on board," Arnhart said. <br /><br />His education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Fire Administration and Safety from Western Illinois University and an Associates of Applied Science in Fire Science Technology from Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Missouri. <br /><br />His additional training includes a Vocational Technical Certificate in Fire Science Technology from Jefferson College and completion of the Fire Officer Development Certificate Program fro
m the University of Missouri. </div>
