(COLUMBIA, MO) - On Friday, March 22, at 3:45 a.m., the Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial structure fire in the 800 block of North Boulevard.

The actual address of the incident was confirmed to be in the 900 block of Business Loop 70 East.

The first crew arrived in five minutes to find a story-and-a-half commercial structure heavily involved in the fire, with connected buildings on both sides threatened by the fire.

The first arriving crews made a rapid-fire attack on the well-involved fire. Five minutes into the event, the incident commander requested a second alarm, bringing three additional fire engines and the air truck to the scene. Multiple handlines and aerial ladders were used to knock down the fire and protect the adjacent attached buildings.

Nineteen Columbia Fire units, comprising of 38 personnel, responded to this incident. Crews brough
t the fire under control within approximately 45 minutes.

Fire crews remained on the scene for several hours to assist fire investigators and ensure that no areas of hidden fire remained.

The Columbia fire marshals are continuing an origin and cause investigation. No injuries were reported at the time of the incident.

The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms should be placed on the ceiling (or on a wall no closer than four inches from the ceiling) on every level of your home and outside of places where people sleep. Check your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button. Change your smoke alarm batteries at least twice per year when adjusting your clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Replace any smoke alarm over 10 years old.
