<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The commanding officer of the USS Columbia Submarine and three crewmembers are visiting the City of Columbia, a Namesake City of the submarine, beginning April 15.<br /><br />Cmder. Brad Foster and the three crewmembers are visiting Columbia for events, including a speaking engagement for University of Missouri Naval ROTC midshipmen.<br /><br />Their itinerary includes the following activities with these media opportunities:<br /><br /><strong>Monday, April 15<br /></strong><br />6:30 p.m., City Hall Lobby, Cmdr. Brad Foster available for questions from press<br /><br />7 p.m., City Hall Council Chambers, Cmdr. Foster and crew introduced at City Council Meeting<br /><br /><strong>Wednesday, April 17<br /></strong><br />4:15 p.m., Flat Branch Pub & Brewing, 115 S. Fifth St., Cmdr. ption with Mayor Buffaloe<br /><br />5:15 p.m., Flat Branch Pub & Brewing, 115 S. Fifth St., Mayor Buffaloe remarks and ribbon cutting with Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors. (Flat Branch Café is the name of the Crew’s Mess (dining, studying, socializing area) named for our Flat Branch Pub & Brewing.)<br /><br />Cmdr. Foster and crew will also be meeting with local officials regarding the ongoing Namesake City relationship that started with the submarine’s christening in 1994 and commissioning in 1995.<br /> <br />Foster is accompanied by Lt. (j.g.) Zachary Rosen (junior officer of the year), Chief Petty Officer Matt Choiniere (a Missouri native), and Petty Officer First Class Billy Kilmer (junior sailor of the year).<br /><br />Foster earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in nuclear engineering and radiological health engineering. He earned a master’s degree in operations research from the Naval Postgraduate School
.<br /><br />The USS Columbia is a Los Angeles Class fast attack submarine that is homeported at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. It has a crew of approximately 125 sailors. The Namesake City relationship started in 1994 when former Mayor Mary Anne McCollum was asked to have Columbia be one of three namesake cities. The other cities are Columbia, Illinois, and Columbia, South Carolina.<br /><br />Former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton was the submarine’s sponsor. The Namesake City relationship is coordinated by the Mayor’s Task Force on the USS Columbia and Friends of the USS Columbia Submarine SSN-771, chaired by Anne Moore.</div>
