<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px; margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia Police investigate fatal two-vehicle collision on Highway 63, May 3</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">At approximately 5 p.m. May 3, Boone County Joint Communications was notified of a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on Highway 63 near the intersection of State Highway AC.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Columbia Police, the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol located and attempted to stop the vehicle, a blue 2021 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Allen D. Nichols, 84, of Ashland. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">At 5:11 p.m., Nichols collided head-on with a gray 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Robert J. Heckman, 56, of Columbia. Heckman was traveling southbound in the passing lane on Highway 63 near the I-70 Connector. Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt.</span></p>
<p>Nichols died at the scene due to injuries sustained during the crash. Next of kin has been notified. </p>
<p>Heckman was treated at the scene by the Columbia Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services. He was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. </p>
<p>This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652 or CrimeStoppers at 573.875.TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous. </p>
