<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Columbia Police arrested Murphy Hughes Jr., 69, of Columbia on July 11 for a stabbing that occurred near the intersection of East Business Loop and Garth Avenue.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hughes was arrested on charges of first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">At approximately 6:49 p.m. on July 11, Columbia Police responded to a physical disturbance between two adult males near the intersection of East Business Loop and Garth Avenue. An adult female who had been involved in the incident had been stabbed with a knife. The victim was taken by private vehicle to a local hospital and treated for serious injuries sustained in the stabbing. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652 or CrimeStoppers at 573.875.TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.</span></p>
