<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - On Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 2:07 a.m., the Columbia Fire Department responded to a commercial structure fire at 4140 S. Bearfield Drive.<br /><br />The first crew arrived in three minutes to find a single story commercial structure with heavy fire showing.<br /><br />The crews made an aggressive interior fire attack. Due to deteriorating conditions, all crews evacuated the structure and began defensive fire operations. Crews were able to extinguish the fire in 25 minutes. Ten Columbia Fire units, comprising 23 personnel, responded to this incident. <br /><br />The Columbia Fire Department remains on scene to assist with the fire investigation and extinguish any hidden fire.<br /><br />The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms should be placed on the ceiling (or on a wall no closer than four inches from the ceiling) on every level of your home and outside 
 of places where people sleep. Check your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button. Change your smoke alarm batteries at least twice per year when adjusting your clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Replace any smoke alarm over 10 years old.</div>
