<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Commemorative Poster unveiled and artist honored at the 2024 Celebration of the Arts</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The City of Columbia Office of Cultural Affairs hosted the annual Celebration of the Arts fundraiser for the Columbia Arts Fund Aug. 21 at the Boone County History & Culture Center. The event was hosted by Alex and Robin LaBrunerie. At the event, the 2024 City of Columbia Commemorative Poster was unveiled along with a special recognition made to a member of the arts community.<br /> <br />Each year since 1992, the City of Columbia has produced an annual Commemorative Poster to communicate the vitality and beauty of Columbia. Artist Gloria Gaus’ "Prairie Sky" oil portrait was unveiled as this year’s Commemorative Poster. Gaus is a plein air artist, working primarily with oils. The poster is available for $20 each at the Convention and Visitors Bureau located in the Walton Building at 300 S. Providence Road. Previous year’s posters are also available for $10 each.
 <br /><br />Since 2015, the City has also paid special recognition to a member of the arts community, a volunteer or staff member, who has made a significant impact on one of the City’s funded arts organizations. Out of the many worthy submissions, the Office of Cultural Affairs was thrilled to recognize Jo Stealey for her contributions to the arts with a presentation made by Mayor Barbara Buffaloe.<br /><br />Stealey is a professor emerita, former head of the fiber program and founding director for the School of Visual Studies at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She teaches workshops, lectures, and curates exhibitions, including the traveling exhibition and catalog, Rooted, Revived, Reinvented: Basketry in America. Stealey is best known for her sculptural objects, artist books, installations and mixed media based on basketry processes. <br /><br />She has been exhibited widely in over 300 national and international exhibitions and has her work in the permanent
  collections of such institutions as the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.; the La Escuela de Arte in Granada, Spain, the Windgate Gallery at the University of Arkansas in Fort Smith, Arkansas; and the Springfield Art Museum in Springfield, Missouri, among others.<br /><br />Numerous letters of support accompanied Jo’s nomination and all had a common thread - people know Jo to be a leader and mentor who is patient, caring, diplomatic and kind. She continues to lend her insights to leaders in Columbia’s arts community, as well as exemplify what it means to devote a career of service to the arts. <br /><br />For more information about the Celebration of the Arts, visit the City’s website at <a style="white-space:nowrap" href="https://www.como.gov/cultural-affairs/programs-and-services/celebration-of-the-arts/">CoMo.gov/cultural-affairs/programs-and-services/celebration-of-the-arts/</a>.</div>
