(COLUMBIA, MO) - Update: The sidewalk construction will now start Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Original press release: CoMo.gov/CMS/pressreleases/view.php?id=8914

Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 10, B&P Patterson LLC, contractor for the City of Columbia Public Works department, will begin work on the Grindstone Parkway sidewalk project. This project will address the sidewalk gap on the south side of Grindstone Parkway between Hyde Park Avenue and Norfleet Drive.

Construction will require the closure of the eastbound shoulder and bike lane of Grindstone Parkway. Lane restrictions on the eastbound lanes between Hyde Park Avenue and Norfleet Drive may also be necessary. Drivers are urged to exercise caution and reduce speed when traveling through the work zone.

The project involves c
onstructing a new sidewalk that will extend from the existing sidewalk just east of Hyde Park Avenue, continuing eastward along the south side of Grindstone Parkway until it connects with the existing sidewalk at the corner of Grindstone Parkway and State Farm Parkway.

Additionally, a sidewalk will be constructed from the existing sidewalk just west of Norfleet Drive, heading west along the south side of Grindstone Parkway, until it also connects with the sidewalk at Grindstone Parkway and State Farm Parkway.

All new sidewalks will be 5 feet wide with a 3-foot greenspace between the sidewalk and the roadway.

The project will also include the removal and reconstruction of ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps and landings on the south side of Grindstone Parkway at its intersection with State Farm Parkway.

This sidewalk project is designed to enhance pedestrian connectivity within our community. By providing accessible and safe infrastru
cture, we aim to ensure that people of all abilities, regardless of their mode of travel, can navigate independently and access all parts of the community.

Public involvement for this project included an interested parties meeting on April 26, 2023, and a public hearing on June 20, 2023. The total cost of construction is $139,200, funded by the City of Columbia's 2015 Capital Improvement Sales Tax extension.

The project is expected to be completed by late fall.
