(COLUMBIA, MO) - Starting at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, Capital Paving, contractors for the City of Columbia Public Works department, will perform overnight mill and overlay pavement maintenance at various locations around Columbia.

The following sections of these six streets will be resurfaced:

West Worley Street from North Fairview Road to the end of the asphalt near Smithton Middle School

Bernadette Drive from North Stadium Boulevard to West Worley Street

Locust Street from Hitt Street to South Sixth Street

Paquin Street from South College Avenue to Hitt Street

Waugh Street from Locust Street to Paquin Street

North Keene Street from the roundabout at I-70 Drive SE to the East Broadway (Route WW) traffic signal

Capital Paving crews will begin work on West Worley Street at 5 p.m. Sept. 16. After completing West Worley Street and Bernadette Drive, they will move on to the three downtown streets and then finish on North Keene Street. However, the order of completion may change based on crew considerations. For example, work near residential areas will be done in the early evening to minimize disruptions during the overnight hours.

Crews will work nightly from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m., but no work will take place Saturday or Sunday.

The mill and overlay process removes the top layer of pavement before applying new asphalt. During this process, there will be periods when milled surfaces have no lane markings. Once the final layer of asphalt is in place, pavement marking will be applied as weather permits. Temporary marking tabs will be installed to assist drivers, but caution is still advised when navigating these roads.

Temporary lane closures will be requ
ired. Traffic control signs and flaggers will direct vehicles through work zones as needed. Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to use caution and seek alternate routes when possible.

"No parking" signs will be posted at least 24 hours before work begins on any street scheduled for resurfacing. Please avoid parking on streets where these signs are posted during the listed dates and times.

Vehicles parked in active work zones during scheduled working hours may be ticketed or towed. Downtown residents are reminded that free parking is available year-round in City parking garages from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. in both hourly and permit sections.

Work on the listed streets is scheduled to be completed by 7 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, weather permitting.

For updates, follow the City of Columbia Public Works department on social media.
