(COLUMBIA, MO) - Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, Cook Concrete, contractor for the City of Columbia Public Works department, will begin constructing a raised pedestrian crossing on Northland Drive at the Bear Creek Trail.

During construction, both driving lanes of Northland Drive between Blue Ridge Road and Argyle Road will be closed to traffic. Drivers east of the closure will be unable to travel north on Northland Drive to reach Blue Ridge Road and will need to detour east to Parker Street.

The raised pedestrian crossing is part of traffic calming measures approved by City Council during a public hearing held May 15, 2023. Interested parties meetings were held Dec. 1, 2022, and Feb. 28, 2023.

As part of this project, City of Columbia Public Works street crews installed eight speed humps on Northland Drive Oct. 4-5, 2023.

The total cost of the traffic calming
measures, including the speed humps and the crosswalk improvements at Bear Creek Trail, is $55,000. Funding for the project comes from the quarter-cent 2015 Capital Improvement Sales Tax extension.

Work is expected to be completed by 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, weather permitting.

Previous releases:

Installation of speed humps on Northland Drive scheduled for Oct. 4-5

CoMo.gov/CMS/pressreleases/view.php?id=8567.
