<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - On Friday, Sept. 20, at 3:40 a.m., the Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 1000 block of Crestland Ave. <br /><br />The first crew arrived several minutes later to find a single-story home with heavy fire showing.<br /><br />The crews made a defensive attack and were able to control the fire in approximately 20 minutes. Twelve Columbia Fire units, comprising 26 personnel, responded to this incident.<br /><br />Fire crews remained on scene for several hours to assist fire investigators and to ensure no areas of hidden fire remained.<br /><br />The Columbia Fire Department’s Fire Marshal’s Division will continue an origin and cause investigation. No injuries were reported at the time of the incident.<br /><br />The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms should be placed on the ceiling (or on a w
 all no closer than four inches from the ceiling) on every level of your home and outside of places where people sleep. Check your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button. Change your smoke alarm batteries at least twice per year when adjusting your clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Replace any smoke alarm over 10 years old.</div>
