(COLUMBIA, MO) - In partnership with the Boone County Overdose Response Coalition and Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS), Columbia College will host a SAVE-A-LIFE: opioid education and naloxone distribution event on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The event will be at the Columbia College Brouder Science Center at 705 Rangeline St., 65201. Convenient parking will be available on the east side of Rangeline Street, across from the Science Center.

Following the event, PHHS staff will be present to provide information and brief training for individuals who cannot be at the formal presentation. Both the formal and informal training will include recognizing the signs of an opioid overdose and an explanation of how to use and access naloxone nasal spray.

SAVE-A-LIFE is a series of monthly, free-to-the-public events that feature education and conversation around how m
embers in the community can help to prevent opioid overdose deaths through the use of naloxone, also known as Narcan® (a drug that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose).

This training marks a milestone for the Coalition having provided monthly SAVE-A-LIFE events for two years. The first was in October 2022 at Douglass High School in collaboration with KBIA FM Radio.

For more information contact Heather Harlan, Heather.Harlan@Como.gov or 573.817.6404.

This event is funded in part by contract DH240054280 between PHHS and the State of Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. As a result of the continued partnership between PHHS and the Missouri Institute for Mental Health (MIMH), NARCAN® will be available to participants of the event at no cost.
