<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The City of Columbia welcomed a delegation from Columbia’s sister city, Suncheon City, South Korea, Nov. 13. <br /><br />During the visit, the 13 delegates had the opportunity to tour Columbia locations including the University of Missouri campus, North Village Arts District, Columbia’s Agriculture Park, the Columbia Public Library and more. The visit also included meetings with members of the Columbia City Council and the dedication of a tree in Stephen’s Lake Park to commemorate the visit. <br /><br />The trip concluded with the delegates attending Regional Economic Development Inc.’s (REDI) annual meeting where attendees had the opportunity to learn more about economic development in the region.<br /><br />Suncheon City, JeollaNamdo Province, South Korea, and Columbia, Missouri, United States, have been Sister Cities since Oct. 18, 1991.<br /><br />Delegates fro
m Suncheon City have made several visits to Columbia previously, including in 2015. In 2010, both Columbia and Suncheon issued a joint proclamation reaffirming the relationship between the two mayors at the time. <br /><br />In 2013, the City of Columbia was invited to submit a garden design for the International Garden Exposition in Suncheon.<br /><br />The Sister Cities program is designed to create opportunities for citizens in Columbia and Sister Cities to learn and experience other cultures through long-term relationships. The goal is to promote further mutual understanding and collaboration through academic, cultural and economic exchange among cities.<br /><br />Columbia has five sister cities including Suncheon City, Republic of Korea; Kutaisi, Republic of Georgia; Hakusan City, Japan; Laoshan District, Qingdao, Shandong Province, People's Republic of China; and Sibiu, Romania.</div>
