<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The City of Columbia is continuing to monitor and respond to winter weather. <br /><br />Updates will be posted on the City's various social media accounts. Information and updates are also available at <a style="white-space:nowrap" href="https://www.como.gov/">CoMo.gov</a>.<br /><br /><br /><strong>City of Columbia Public Works</strong><br /><strong>Contact: <em>John Ogan, John.Ogan@CoMo.gov</em></strong><br /><br />A crew of 30 City of Columbia Public Works snowplow operators has been on duty since 7 a.m., supported by additional workers from City Utilities and Parks and Recreation. Crews have maintained priority roads to near-normal conditions and subsequently began plowing neighborhood streets.<br /><br />At 7 p.m., 16 crew members will continue plowing neighborhood roads during the overnight hours. Meanwhile, another group of workers will focus on hauling snow from the downtown area. Unli
ke residential streets, where snow can typically be pushed to the side, downtown Columbia lacks sufficient space for snow storage. Therefore, snow must be loaded onto dump trucks and transported to designated removal sites.<br /><br />Priority roads now show bare pavement in many areas. Sunlight has helped break up the snowpack, causing it to slush in some spots. However, with overnight lows projected to drop to 5 degrees, refreeze poses a significant risk, creating slippery conditions. Drivers are urged to exercise caution by reducing speeds, increasing stopping distances, avoiding sudden braking or acceleration and maintaining safe following distances.<br /><br />A text alert will be sent this afternoon to notify residents that parking is once again allowed on priority routes. We appreciate the community's cooperation, which has greatly helped our drivers plow more effectively. t@CoMo.gov</em></strong><br /><br />Trash collection for this week will begin Tuesday, Jan. 7, and will continue as normally scheduled for the remainder of the week. For customers with Monday collections, please place your roll cart out for collection on Saturday, Jan. 11.<br /><br />Recycling collection for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday remains canceled. Customers with Thursday and Friday recycle collections may also place their recycling bags with their roll carts. Monday's collection on Saturday, Jan. 11 will be trash only and not include recycling. Due to changing conditions, it is recommended to check with the location before going. <br /><br />Animal Control will only respond to extreme emergencies at this time, such as a vicious dog running loose, a gravely injured animal or a bat inside a home. Reports can be made by calling 573.449.1888. Response times may be delayed depending on road conditions. /strong><br /><br />Due to hazardous traveling conditions, Columbia Police have implemented the delayed crash report protocol and will only be responding to crashes involving serious injuries or criminal elements.<br /><br />If you are involved in a non-emergency accident, please call 311 or report online.<br /><br />All vehicles that have been responded to as part of a delayed crash report will be marked with crime scene tape and towed when weather conditions improve. <br /><br /><br /><br /></div>
