<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The City of Columbia is continuing to monitor and respond to winter weather. <br /><br />Updates will be posted on the City's various social media accounts. Information and updates are also available at <a href="https://www.como.gov/CMS/pressreleases/CoMo.gov">CoMo.gov</a>.<br /><br /><strong>City of Columbia Public Works</strong><br /><strong>Contact: <em>John Ogan, </em></strong><a href="mailto:John.Ogan@CoMo.gov"><em><strong>John.Ogan@CoMo.gov</strong></em><br /></a><br />Following overnight efforts, a reported 65% of neighborhood streets have been plowed as of 7 a.m. Tuesday. An 18-person City of Columbia Public Works snowplow crew has continued to plow and treat neighborhood streets since then. Residents can track snowplow crew progress live using the Street and Snow Route Priority Viewer map located at <a href="https://www.como.gov/CMS/pressreleases/CoMoSnow.com">CoMoSnow.com</a>.<br /> <br /
>Please note that crews have plowed neighborhood streets from the outer edges of the City inward. For reference, this approach alternates with each snowstorm. During the last winter weather event requiring neighborhood plowing in March 2022, crews started in the City center and worked outward.<br /><br />Overnight temperatures were in the single digits, limiting the impact of road salt applications. However, ample sunlight and temperatures in the low 20s today will help increase its effectiveness and contribute to breaking up packed snow.<br /><br />A separate snow removal crew worked overnight hauling snow out of the downtown Columbia area. Unlike residential streets, where snow can often be pushed aside, downtown Columbia lacks adequate space for snow storage. As a result, snow must be loaded onto dump trucks and transported to designated removal sites. Most of the snow downtown was able to be hauled away, although some remaining snow remains west of South Providence Road a
nd on Tiger Avenue. This remaining snow is scheduled to be hauled away during overnight operations Tuesday.<br /><br />At 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, a text alert was sent allowing parking on priority routes once again. We appreciate the community's cooperation, which has greatly helped our drivers plow more effectively. To receive alerts about priority road parking restrictions, sign up at <a href="https://www.como.gov/CMS/pressreleases/Alerts.CoMo.gov">Alerts.CoMo.gov</a>. Notifications are available via text, email or automated phone call.<br /><br />Drivers are urged to continue to use prudent winter weather driving techniques. s running as scheduled Tuesday, Jan. 7.<br /><br />Paratransit service is also planned to operate as normal. If road conditions prevent access to a customer’s home, Go COMO staff will notify the customer directly. Customers are advised to exercise caution and plan extra time for navigating icy or snow-covered paths from their doors to the vehicle.<br /><br /><br /><strong>City of Columbia Utilities</strong><br /><strong>Contact: Jason West, <em><a href="mailto:Jason.West@CoMo.gov">Jason.West@CoMo.gov</a><br /></em></strong><br />Trash collection for this week began Tuesday, Jan. 7, and will continue as normally scheduled for the remainder of the week. For customers with Monday collections, please place your roll cart out for collection on Saturday, Jan. 11.<br /><br />Recycling collection for Tuesday and Wednesday remains canceled. Customers with Thursday and Friday recycle collections may also place their recycling bags with their roll carts. Monday's collection on Sat
urday, Jan. 11 will be trash only and not include recycling.
