<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia Fire Department responds to a structure fire, Jan. 17</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display: inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">On Friday, Jan. 17, at 4:38 p.m., Columbia Fire Department units responded to a residential structure fire in the 20 block of Bryant Walkway.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Columbia Fire arrived in four minutes to find a multiplex with smoke showing. Flames were contained to the first floor of the unit.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Crews were able to extinguish the fire in approximately five minutes. Firefighters were able to limit the damage to the unit of origin. Eleven Columbia Fire units, comprising 28 personnel, responded to this incident. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While there were no human injuries at this incident, one cat did unfortunately perish in the fire.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Columbia Fire investigators determined this to be an accidental cooking fire caused by grease on a burner.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms should be placed on the ceiling (or on a wall no closer than four inches from the ceiling) on every level of your home and outside of places where people sleep. Check your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button. Change your smoke alarm batteries at least twice per year when adjusting your clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Replace any smoke alarm over 10 years old.</span></p></div>
