<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia Fire Department responds to a structure fire, Jan. 18</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display: inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">On Saturday, Jan. 18, at 5:55 p.m., Columbia Fire Department units responded to a residential structure fire in the 2200 block of Lafayette Court.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Columbia Fire arrived in six minutes to find a single family residence with smoke and flames showing. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Crews were able to extinguish the fire in approximately ten minutes. Firefighters were able to limit the damage to the room of origin. Ten Columbia Fire units, comprising 21 personnel, responded to this incident. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Firefighters were able to rescue one of two cats from the building. Unfortunately, the other cat perished in the fire. There were no human injuries.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Columbia Fire investigators determined this to be an accidental fire caused by a candle.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms should be placed on the ceiling (or on a wall no closer than four inches from the ceiling) on every level of your home and outside of places where people sleep. Check your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button. Change your smoke alarm batteries at least twice per year when adjusting your clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Replace any smoke alarm over 10 years old.</span></p></div>
