<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">City of Columbia Utilities and Stantec Consulting will be hosting a presentation to explain the cost of service study process. This cost of service study being performed by Stantec Consulting will examine the Water Utility’s revenue sufficiency, cost of service, rate design, and customer impact.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The public event is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Feb. 5, 2025, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 701 E. Broadway.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The cost of service study will help determine how much revenue the water utility needs to cover expenses while balancing impacts on customers. Studies such as these are generally conducted every five years to accommodate any changes to expenses, technology, etc. The last study was completed in 2018, with recommendations implemented in 2019. This upcoming study will project costs and necessary revenue for the next ten years.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Stantec Consulting will perform the study to examine the Water Utility’s revenue sufficiency, cost of service, rate design, and customer impact.</span></p>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Revenue sufficiency:</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> How much money is needed to meet sustainable operations?</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Cost of service:</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> From whom should the money be collected?</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Rate design:</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> What is the charge that is proportional to the service provided?</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Customer impact:</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> How do we achieve fair and justifiable rates?</span></li>

<p>The meeting, which will be recorded, will allow the public to ask questions and provide comments. Interested parties can view the recording at their convenience on the City of Columbia website. </p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Questions and comments will also be accepted online at BeHeard.CoMo.gov through Feb. 19. Residents who are unable to attend can submit their questions through <a style="white-space:nowrap" href="https://beheard.como.gov/water-rates-presentation">BeHeard.CoMo.gov</a> through Feb. 19. Questions and comments submitted by Feb. 19 will be forwarded to Stantec for consideration.</span></p>
