<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px; margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia Police release information regarding officer-involved shooting in the 1500 block of Raleigh Drive, Feb. 1</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">On Feb. 1, the Columbia Police Department was contacted by the Moberly Police Department to assist in locating and apprehending a suspect in connection with a homicide that occurred in Moberly, Missouri. The Columbia Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Crisis Negotiation Teams (CNT) responded to the 1500 block of Raleigh Drive where officers had located the suspect’s vehicle. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Columbia Police Department SWAT and CNT Teams arrived on scene around 9 p.m. and determined the suspect was inside the residence. It was also determined that an adult female and multiple juveniles were present inside the residence. CNT members established phone contact with the female who indicated she was in danger.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Shortly after 10 p.m., the suspect exited the residence armed with a knife and would not comply with officers’ commands to drop the knife. Officers deployed less-lethal impact munitions as well as a K-9 in an attempt to apprehend the suspect, but neither had the desired effect. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Because the suspect remained a threat to officers as well as the people inside the residence, multiple officers fired striking the suspect. Medical aid was provided to the suspect. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">One Columbia Police officer was injured by the K-9 during the incident and is being treated at the hospital. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Columbia Police Department has requested the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control respond to investigate the officer involved shooting. Their personnel arrived a short time ago and took control of the scene. The Columbia Police Department Internal Affairs Unit will also review the incident to ensure compliance with internal policy. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While the Columbia Police Department will not discuss specific personnel actions or disclose investigative details, it is standard practice to place officers directly involved in such incidents on administrative leave. Next of kin has not been notified, therefore the suspect's identity is not being released at this time. This remains an ongoing investigation under the direction of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and any further information released will be at their discretion. </span></p>
