<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The City of Columbia is responding to winter weather impacting the mid-Missouri area Wednesday, Feb. 12. <br /><br />The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm warning in effect through 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12. Heavy snow is expected with accumulations between 2 and 5 inches. <br /><br />The NWS states Travel could be very difficult, and hazardous conditions will impact commutes throughout Wednesday.<br /><br />As winter weather can be unpredictable, residents are encouraged to closely monitor the forecast and changing road conditions throughout the mid-Missouri area. Updates will be posted on the City's various social media accounts. A crew of 25 operators will be on duty this morning as plowable snow begins to accumulate.<br /><br />Residents are encouraged to limit travel during winter weather. Drivers can assist snow removal efforts by avoiding parking on priority roads, which are marked with red, white and blue snow route signs. To receive an alert when 2 inches of snow has accumulated and parking is no longer allowed on priority routes, sign up at Alerts.CoMo.gov. Notifications are available via text, email or automated phone call.<br /><br />Drivers should use caution and s
afe winter driving techniques, as roads may be slick even after treatment. Reduce speed, allow extra stopping distance and be especially careful on bridges, overpasses and untreated side streets. If you encounter a snowplow, give it space. Over-application of salt during winter weather is wasteful and contaminates local waterways. Excess salt runs off driveways
and sidewalks and into local waterways. A little goes a long way! O@CoMo.gov</em></a></strong><br /><br />Columbia Police ask that residents slow down, increase distance between cars, accelerate and decelerate slowly, wear a seatbelt and take all other precautions to keep yourself and others safe.<br /><br />Residents should also not leave vehicles running while unattended. While you may be trying to warm your vehicle or defrost your windshield, a vehicle left running unattended for even a few minutes is at risk for theft.</div>
