<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia Fire Department responds to two residential structure fires during severe thunderstorms, March 14</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display: inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">On Friday, March 14, the Columbia Fire Department (CFD) responded to 77 emergencies, including two occupied residential structure fires, during a severe thunderstorm warning. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">CFD was dispatched at approximately 4:07 p.m. to reports of a fire in the 10 block of Navahoe Avenue. The first crew arrived within four minutes to find a residential building with heavy flames rapidly growing from the structure.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Firefighters extinguished the fire within 15 minutes and were able to limit the damage to the building of origin. Columbia fire marshals are conducting an origin and cause investigation. Twelve Columbia Fire companies responded to this incident.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">At 4:57 p.m., CFD responded to a second residential fire in the 1100 block of Elleta Boulevard. The incident occurred concurrently with the previous structure fire. The first crew arrived within three minutes to find a duplex with heavy flames showing. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Crews extinguished the fire within 15 minutes and limited the damage to the building of origin. Columbia fire marshals determined that this was an accidental fire caused by an unattended grill. Eleven Columbia Fire companies responded to this incident.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Despite the challenges posed by the severe weather and high call volume, Columbia Fire Department firefighters responded swiftly and effectively to protect lives and property. Both fires were contained to their respective structures, preventing further damage to neighboring buildings, and there were no injuries at either fire.</span></p></div>
