<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The City of Columbia has named D’Markus Thomas-Brown as the Office of Violence Prevention administrator, the first to hold this position in the new office within the City. He will step into the role March 31.<br /><br />"This role is a groundbreaking step in our efforts to reduce community violence, and D'Markus's extensive experience, training and deep-rooted connections in the community make him an ideal fit," said City Manager De’Carlon Seewood. "His understanding of the unique challenges we face, paired with his proven ability to engage with residents and community partners, will be instrumental in shaping a safer, stronger future for Columbia."<br /><br />Thomas-Brown has worked as the regional director of Good Dads Inc. since 2024. Prior to that, he served as managing director of in2Action, program director for the Reentry Opportunity Center (ROC) and account s
 trategist for Influence & Co.<br /><br />Additionally, Thomas-Brown is a certified harm reduction specialist with the Missouri Credentialing Board, a certified trauma informed community specialist with TMT Consulting Knowledge Academy and is a certified peer specialist. <br /><br />He has attended training for mental health first aid from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing and training on prevention and intervention strategies related to substance use and other risk factors for gun violence through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.<br /><br />Thomas-Brown earned his bachelor’s degree in international business and management and his master’s degree in business administration and management from Columbia college. He also is in the doctor of global leadership program at Fuller Theological Seminary.<br /><br />"I am humbled by the confidence from the City Manager and his staff to offer me the opportunity to bring enrichment
  to our community in this inaugural office. I am particularly drawn to the directive of identifying and affecting root causes that contribute to violence in our various neighborhoods, specifically areas such as education, financial stability and health-the foundational pillars that can transform lives and whole communities," said Thomas-Brown. "I believe this position can be instrumental in developing systemic change by empowering individuals and families, and I am eager to work with the City Manager, staff and community partners to add to the various initiatives that are already operating at the support and directive of the City of Columbia." <br /><br />The Office of Violence Prevention is dedicated to coordinating the development, implementation and evaluation of violence prevention programs and initiatives. Through collaboration with law enforcement, community organizations, government agencies and key stakeholders, the office will develop strategies that r
 educe violence and improve public safety and wellbeing.</div>
