<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia Police Department releases 2024 crime statistics</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">To ensure the accuracy of the data reported, in late 2024, Police Chief Jill Schlude directed an evaluation of the internal process of how data is collected and categorized to ensure compliance with state- and federally-mandated reporting. This has resulted in more accurate crime reporting for 2024, and those crime statistics are available at CoMo.gov/police. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It is important to note that crime statistics are fluid, as arrests made daily affect the numbers and how those numbers are reported. In an effort to improve transparency with our community, the department will be launching a dashboard in summer 2025. This dashboard will allow the department to share crime data with the community in a timely manner and, in the future, other relevant data.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"Reliable statistics are vital for effective policing and public trust," said Chief Schlude. "A comprehensive audit of our data demonstrates our commitment to transparency and building community confidence in their police department."</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In addition, Chief Schlude directed the Professional Standards Bureau to conduct a comprehensive audit of Use of Force statistics. This review uncovered discrepancies in previously reported data, necessitating a revision of the 2023 Use of Force figures. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As a result, the department has resubmitted the corrected 2023 Use of Force reports to ensure accuracy. Both the revised 2023 Use of Force report and the new 2024 Use of Force statistics are available for public review at CoMo.gov/police.</span></p></div>
