<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department, along with the City of Columbia’s TreeKeepers volunteer group, the City’s Tree Board and the Columbia Farmers Market, is planning the annual Arbor Day tree giveaway.<br /><br />The giveaway will be Saturday, April 26, starting at 8 a.m. and lasting until seedlings are gone. Trees will be distributed at the MU Health Care Pavilion, home of the Columbia Farmers Market, 1769 Ash St. <br /><br />Two tree seedlings per person will be distributed. Trees available include:<br /><br />

<li>Black cherry</li>
<li>Black walnut</li>
<li>Blackberry</li>
<li>Black gum</li>
<li>Bur oak</li>
<li>Buttonbush</li>
<li>Concordia oak (Chinkapin oak and Dwarf Chinkapin oak hybrid)</li>
<li>Elderberry</li>
<li>Flowering dogwood</li>
<li>Hazelnut</li>
<li>Kentucky coffeetree</li>
<li>Ninebark</li>
<li>Pecan</li>
<li>Persimmon</li>
<li>Redbud</li>
<li>Serviceberry</li>
<li>Swamp white oak</li>
<li>Tulip poplar</li>
<li>White pine</li>
<li>Witch hazel</li>
</ul>
<br />Columbia holds Arbor Day events each year as part of their designation as a Tree City USA, a recognition bestowed by the National Arbor Day Foundation to honor the City’s commitment to a forestry program. Columbia has met all four standards to be a Tree City USA: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and an Arbor Day observance.<br /><br /> For more information about the tree giveaway, call Parks and Recreation at 573.874.7460.</div>
