(COLUMBIA, MO) -
On Thursday, April 17, at 11:46 a.m., Columbia Fire Department units responded to an outdoor gas leak in the 1300 block of East Business Loop.

Engine 1 arrived within five minutes and discovered that an 8-inch main gas line had been struck during construction. The damaged line allowed gas to enter a nearby business.

Fire crews quickly shut down the street and evacuated the affected building to ensure public safety. Ameren arrived at the scene to shut off the gas supply. Columbia Fire personnel then ventilated the structure to remove any remaining gas. No injuries were reported.

The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that if they smell gas, they should leave the area immediately and call 911.
