<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The City of Columbia Water Utility is scheduled to begin unidirectional flushing of the water distribution system in west Columbia on Monday, April 21.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The targeted area of the project - defined as Area 6 on the attached map - is west of Stadium Boulevard between Interstate 70 and Broadway.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Crews will be flushing the pipes between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The Utility expects the project to be completed in two weeks.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">During unidirectional flushing, water is forced through a water pipe at a velocity high enough to remove mineral deposits from the interior surface of the water mains.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">During this time, customers may notice cloudiness or discoloration in their water. The sediment is calcium bicarbonate (lime), which is used as a water softener. It is not harmful to consume and poses no health hazard. However, if discoloration persists more than a few hours, the City asks customers to report their concerns at 573.874.CITY (2489), and Water Utility staff will respond.</span></p></div>
