<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The City of Columbia and Boone County are currently responding to multiple reports of damage from a severe storm that occurred late Sunday, April 20.<br /><br />The National Weather Service (NWS) reported multiple severe thunderstorms and possible tornado damage late Sunday evening. The NWS will be in Boone County April 21 to assess damage.<br /><br />At this time, there are no reported injuries as a result of the storms.<br /><br />To report property damage as a result of the storm, contact the Boone County Office of Emergency Management at EM@BooneCountyMo.org. Residents impacted by the storm can call the United Way of Mid-Missouri at 211 or 800-427-4626 to be connected with resources. For non-emergency reports, call 311. West@CoMo.gov">Jason.West@CoMo.gov</a></strong></em><br />Due to significant damage to the City of Columbia Material Recovery Facility during Sunday afternoon’s storm, all City of Columbia recycling has been suspended indefinitely. This includes weekly residential curbside collections and commercial collections. The recycling drop-off centers will also be closed and unavailable to the public. More information will be made available in the coming days.<br /><br />Please consider any downed or low-hanging power line as energized and dangerous. An energized line may not spark, smoke or make any noise. If you encounter a power line, please stay at least 30 feet away from a downed distribution line or 100 feet away from a downed transmission line. Never approach or attempt to move a line under any circumstances. To report a downed power line, please call 573.875.2555.<br /><br /><strong>Columbia Fire Department</strong><br /><strong>Contact: <em><a style="white-space:nowrap"
href="mailto:Fire-PIO@CoMo.gov">Fire-PIO@CoMo.gov</a></em></strong><br />The Columbia Fire Department responded to multiple calls related to weather April 20. Crews responded to approximately 30 calls, including damage to approximately five homes and several City-owned structures. The majority of the damage appeared to be in the northeastern section of town, including the Creasy Springs and Paris Road areas. The department continues to respond to calls related to the storm damage through the night, and residents are reminded to use caution in areas affected by the storm, especially around downed power lines. <br /><br /><strong>Public Works</strong><br /><strong>Contact: <em>John Ogan, <a style="white-space:nowrap" href="mailto:John.Ogan@CoMo.gov">John.Ogan@CoMo.gov</a></em></strong><br />The City of Columbia Public Works Street division crews responded Sunday afternoon and evening to reports of downed trees and street debris, primarily in the northern part of the city. Crew
s also placed barricades at several locations where heavy rain caused temporary street flooding. Staff will continue monitoring conditions and clearing debris as needed in the coming days to support safe travel throughout Columbia.</div>
