<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">City of Columbia Utilities and Stantec Consulting will present the results of a recently completed cost of service study Monday, May 5, at the City Council’s pre-Council meeting. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Stantec Consulting’s cost of service study examined the Water Utility’s revenue sufficiency, cost of service, rate design, and customer impact.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The pre-Council meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. May 5, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 701 E. Broadway. The presentation will be livestreamed through the </span><a style="white-space:nowrap" href="https://gocolumbiamo.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?publish_id=67816274-c3ef-4eb9-8b9f-5e713c999e26"><span style="font-weight: 400;">City’s website</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The cost of service study evaluated how much revenue the water utility will need to cover expenses while balancing impacts on customers. Studies such as these are generally conducted every five years to accommodate any changes to expenses, technology, etc. This study will project costs and necessary revenue for the next 10 years.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Stantec Consulting examined the Water Utility’s revenue sufficiency, cost of service, rate design, and customer impact.</span></p>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Cost of service:</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> From whom should the money be collected?</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Rate design:</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> What is the charge that is proportional to the service provided?</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Customer impact:</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> How do we achieve fair and justifiable rates?</span></li>
</ul>
