<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia Fire Department responds to residential structure fire, May 2</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display: inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">On Friday, May 2, at 10:44 a.m., the Columbia Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 2900 block of Northland Drive.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The first fire company, consisting of three crew members, arrived within four minutes to find a two-story multiplex with smoke showing from the second story. Upon investigation, firefighters found a small fire in an empty unit. Crew members quickly extinguished the fire and were able to limit the damage to the area of origin. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">All building residents were notified via smoke alarm and were able to safely evacuate the structure prior to CFD arrival. There were no injuries. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Six Columbia Fire companies, with 18 firefighters, responded to this incident.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Columbia Fire Marshals have determined the cause to be accidental, citing that combustible items were placed on a stove that was unintentionally turned on.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms should be placed on the ceiling (or on a wall no closer than four inches from the ceiling) on every level of your home and outside of places where people sleep. Check your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button. Change your smoke alarm batteries at least twice per year when adjusting your clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Replace any smoke alarm over 10 years old.</span></p></div>
