<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The City of Columbia has been selected as one of four winners of the 2025 Missouri Municipal League (MML) Innovation Award for its Home Weatherization Grant Program. The award recognizes outstanding projects that enhance the quality of life in Missouri communities and showcases the innovation and dedication of local government.<br /><br />The City of Columbia’s Home Weatherization Grant Program was created to address housing affordability by reducing utility costs for residents who are financially burdened. Many homeowners in Columbia live in homes that lack adequate insulation, making energy bills unaffordable for those already facing financial hardship. <br /><br />The program began in October 2024 and provides no-cost insulation and weatherization upgrades through the City’s contractor to income-qualified homeowners, particularly those who receive utility assistance, are enrolled in 
 utility payment plans, have experienced disconnections or reside in qualified census blocks.<br /><br />"This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our City staff, especially those at the Housing and Neighborhood Services department and our new Community Connectors initiative," said City Manager De’Carlon Seewood. "Their efforts are making a real difference in the lives of some of our most vulnerable residents by helping reduce utility burdens, improve housing affordability and build stronger, more connected neighborhoods across Columbia."<br /><br />This year, MML received 18 submissions from municipalities across Missouri. The other winners include the City of Ozark, the City of Dardenne Prairie and the City of Butler. Awards were determined by city population size and assessed on creativity, impact and replicability.<br /><br />To learn more about the MML Innovation Awards, visit <a href="https://www.mocities.com/Web/Web/About-MM
