<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia Police Property Crimes Unit arrests two suspects in nationwide forgery and identity theft scheme</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Columbia Police have arrested two men in connection with a nationwide forgery and identity theft scheme. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Property Crimes Unit detectives received intelligence regarding a fraud group operating nationwide. Based on Automatic License Plate Readers data, detectives were alerted that the group was in the Columbia area. On May 8, with assistance from patrol officers, detectives located and apprehended two suspects: Salvador Ocasio, 55, of Bronx, New York, and Lionel Monsanto, 26, of Easton, Pennsylvania. The suspects were found with substantial evidence linked to a nationwide forgery and identity theft scheme.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Detectives arrested Ocasio and Monsanto each on charges of forgery, identity theft and trafficking stolen identities.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Staffing within the Columbia Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit has enabled detectives to investigate theft, burglary, fraud and other property and financial crimes more effectively. The unit is fully staffed for the first time since 2020.</span></p>
