(COLUMBIA, MO) - On Saturday, June 7 at 8:22 p.m., Boone County Joint Communications Center (BCJC) received multiple 911 calls reporting smoke and flames coming from a home in the 4900 block of Fallbrook Drive.

The first fire company arrived within five minutes to find a two-story residential structure with heavy smoke and flames showing. Crew members quickly began deploying pre-connected hoselines from their apparatus and made an aggressive interior fire attack. As additional units arrived, the structure was searched by crews to ensure there were no occupants inside the home. Searches performed inside the home confirmed there were no occupants.

Due to heavy fire on the initial crew’s arrival and the fire extending into the upper level of the structure, extra personnel were requested. Approximately 15 minutes into the incident, Command requested a second-alarm for additional Columb
ia Fire Department units.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control one hour into the incident. Crews remained on scene for several hours to check for extension. The fire is currently under investigation by the Columbia Fire Marshal Battalion to determine the cause and origin.

Sixteen units, comprising 33 personnel, responded to the incident. Three firefighters were evaluated and released at the scene for heat exhaustion. No injuries were reported by the residents.

The Columbia Fire Department reminds everyone that smoke alarms, closing bedroom doors, and knowing two ways out of every space in your home can save lives. Remember that smoke alarms should be placed on the ceiling (or on a wall no closer than four inches from the ceiling) on every level of your home and outside of places where people sleep. Check your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button (the first of the month is a good reminder). &
nbsp;Change your smoke alarm batteries at least twice per year when adjusting your clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Replace any smoke alarm over 10 years old.
