<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display: inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">On Tuesday, July 1, at 9:10 a.m., the Columbia Fire Department responded to a commercial structure fire at 7 N. Sixth St.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The first fire company, consisting of three crew members, arrived within three minutes to find a single-story commercial structure with smoke showing. The building was secure upon arrival, and firefighters forced entry to gain access.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Fire crews immediately initiated coordinated operations. While some companies conducted a primary search - crawling on their hands and knees through low-visibility conditions to locate potential victims - others simultaneously ventilated and launched an aggressive interior fire attack.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Due to the incident location's proximity to buildings downtown and the heat, battalion chiefs issued a "second alarm" for additional fire companies. Firefighters limited the fire to the kitchen area, brought it under control in approximately 20 minutes and mitigated further damage to the structure.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Twenty-one units, comprising 41 personnel, responded to this incident. The building sustained heavy damage.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Columbia Fire Marshal Battalion is currently investigating to determine the cause of the fire.</span></p></div>
