<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - On Wednesday, July 9, at 11:53 p.m., Columbia Fire Department units responded to a residential structure fire in the 1300 block of Godas Drive.<br /><br />Columbia Fire arrived within four minutes to find a duplex with smoke showing from an attached garage. Upon arrival, crews made entry into the structure, simultaneously employing fire attack, searching for occupants and establishing ventilation. <br /><br />Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the garage, however, the connected unit sustained smoke damage.<br /><br />There were no occupants in the affected unit. Residents from the adjoining side of the duplex were able to safely exit the structure. There were no injuries reported.<br /><br />The fire was under control within 20 minutes. Ten Columbia Fire units, comprising 22 personnel, responded to this incident. <br /><br />Crews remained at the scene for several hours to check for hots
 pots and assist fire investigators. The Columbia Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the fire. <br /><br />The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms should be placed on the ceiling (or on a wall no closer than four inches from the ceiling) on every level of your home and outside of places where people sleep. Check your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button. Change your smoke alarm batteries at least twice per year when adjusting your clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Replace any smoke alarm over 10 years old.</div>
