<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Construction of roundabout at Route K and Old Plank Road to begin July 28</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Beginning Monday, July 28, Sam Gaines Construction, contractor for the City of Columbia Public Works department, will start construction on a roundabout at the intersection of West Route K and West Old Plank Road.<br /><br />This project will realign the intersection to improve safety and traffic flow by replacing the skewed angle with a roundabout aligned with Maple Meadows Drive. The hill on Route K will also be lowered slightly to improve visibility. Sidewalks with crosswalks will be added to enhance pedestrian safety.<br /><br />Phase one of the construction will involve lane restrictions on Route K. Later phases will require closures of either West Route K or West Old Plank Road. The City will provide updates as the project progresses.<br /><br />This project is partially funded through the Missouri Department of Transportation Cost Share Partnership Program, which facilitates collaboration be
 tween agencies to complete transportation improvements. Old Plank Road is maintained by the City of Columbia, while Route K is maintained by MoDOT, enabling this joint effort. The total estimated cost of the roundabout is $1,910,000, with funding provided by both the MoDOT Cost Share Program and the City's 2015 quarter-cent Capital Improvement Program (CIP) sales tax extension.   <br /><br />An interested parties meeting was held March 16, 2023, followed by a public hearing June 5, 2023.<br /><br />For more information on this and other capital improvement projects, visit <a style="white-space:nowrap" href="https://www.CoMo.gov/cip">CoMo.gov/cip</a>. The capital improvement projects search feature includes all records associated with capital projects and includes search criteria based on keyword, project status, department, ballot issue or construction year. The information can also be viewed in map form with the capital improvement dashboard.<br /><br />Drivers are
  reminded to use caution in work zones, follow posted detours and signage, and watch for construction workers and equipment. Slowing down and staying alert helps protect both the crews on site and fellow drivers.<br /><br />Construction is expected to be completed by early winter, weather permitting.</div>
