<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The City of Columbia has named Clinton Smith as its next Community Development director. Smith will step into the role beginning Sept. 29. <br /><br />"Clinton has an impressive record of professional experience working in community development and planning," City Manager De’Carlon Seewood said. "I am confident in his abilities to lead efforts in developing Columbia, and I am happy to have him work for our community."<br /><br />Smith has worked in community development for 17 years, including as the director of Planning and Protective Services for Jefferson City since 2023.<br /><br />His prior previous roles include senior planner at the City of Columbia; community planner with the City of Naperville, Illinois; and community planner for the Village of Oswego, Illinois.<br /><br />Smith did his graduate work in community planning at the University of Cincinnati, and 
 received his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri. He is also a certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners.<br /><br />"I’m beyond excited to have been selected as the next Community Development Director for the City of Columbia. As a resident of Columbia for the past 12 years, I’m thrilled to go to work for the City that I already call home, and look forward to working with staff and the community to continue to make Columbia a great place to live," Smith said. </div>
