<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px; margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">City of Columbia, Boone County amend ARPA contracts to provide $100,000 in emergency food assistance amid federal shutdown, SNAP benefit pause</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The City of Columbia and Boone County each announced amendments to their existing American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) contracts to allocate a total of $100,000 in emergency funding ($50,000 each) in response to the ongoing federal government shutdown and the temporary suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The emergency allocation will go directly to The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri to help provide immediate food assistance to individuals and families affected by the pause in federal benefits.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"Many households in our community depend on SNAP to meet their most basic needs," said Columbia Mayor Barbara Buffaloe. "This funding ensures that The Food Bank can continue to serve families who suddenly find themselves without this vital support."</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While food assistance is an urgent need, local officials emphasized that many other basic needs will require attention in the coming weeks, including housing, utilities and childcare. Recognizing this broader impact, several local partners are joining forces once again to mobilize community support.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The City of Columbia, Boone County, Community Foundation of Central Missouri, Heart of Missouri United Way and Veterans United Foundation are reactivating the CoMoHelps initiative, originally launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, to collect and distribute donations where they are most needed.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"Food insecurity has many solutions, and addressing it takes all of us," said Boone County Presiding Commissioner Kip Kendrick. "By reactivating CoMoHelps, we’re ensuring that community donations go directly to the organizations that are best positioned to respond quickly and effectively."</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Residents who wish to help can donate to CoMoHelps at comohelps.org. Contributions will support local nonprofits providing basic needs and other essential services to Boone County and Columbia residents during this time of uncertainty.</span></p>
