<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia Fire Department responds to residential structure fire, Jan. 5</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - On Monday, Jan. 5, at 7:56 a.m., Columbia Fire Department (CFD) units were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 2800 block of North Willowbrook Drive. <strong><strong><br /></strong></strong>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">CFD arrived within four minutes to find heavy smoke and flames showing from the rear of a single-story duplex. Firefighters entered the home to find flames in the basement and rear of the structure and contained the fire within 15 minutes of arrival.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Two occupants were evaluated on scene but declined medical care or transport. Unfortunately, one cat perished at the scene and two kittens are currently unaccounted for.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A total of 13 CFD units comprising 22 personnel responded to this incident.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Columbia Fire Marshals have determined the cause to be an accidental fire that started in a clothes dryer.   </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms should be placed on the ceiling (or on a wall no closer than four inches from the ceiling) on every level of your home and outside of places where people sleep. Check your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button. Change your smoke alarm batteries at least twice per year when adjusting your clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Replace any smoke alarm over 10 years old.</span></p></div>
