<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px; margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Portions of South Sixth Street, East Stewart Road to close starting May 18 for MU Engineering Innovation Center construction</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Beginning Monday, May 18, portions of South Sixth Street and East Stewart Road will close to traffic, parking and pedestrians to accommodate construction of the University's new Engineering Innovation Center. The closures are expected to continue through March 31, 2028.<br /><br /><strong>Phase 1 closures: May 18-Aug. 14, 2026</strong><br />During Phase 1, the following closures will be in place:<br /><br />
<ul>
<li>South Sixth Street closed to through traffic between Elm Street and Conley Avenue.</li>
<li>East Stewart Road closed between South Fifth Street and South Sixth Street.</li>
<li>Sidewalk closed on the east side of South Sixth Street between Elm Street and East Stewart Road.</li>
<li>Parking closed on the west side of South Sixth Street between Elm Street and East Stewart Road.</li>
<li>Parking closed on the north side of East Stewart Road between South Fifth Street and South Sixth Street.</li>
</ul>
Traffic on Conley Avenue and South Fifth Street will remain open, but drivers will not be able to turn into the closed sections of South Sixth Street or East Stewart Road.<br /><br /><strong>Phase 2 closures: May 18, 2026-March 31, 2028</strong><br />The following long-term closures will remain in place during construction:<br /><br />
<ul>
<li>South Sixth Street closed between Elm Street and East Stewart Road.</li>
<li>Sidewalk closed on the east side of South Sixth Street between Elm Street and East Stewart Road.</li>
<li>Parking closed on the west side of South Sixth Street between Elm Street and East Stewart Road.</li>
</ul>
Segments of the sidewalk on the east side of South Sixth Street near Lafferre Hall will remain open to maintain building access.<br /><br />The University of Missouri and its contractor, Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, will maintain signage and barricades in the area.<br /><br />Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are encouraged to use caution and allow additional travel time near the construction zone.<br /><br /><strong>Impacts to Go COMO bus service</strong><br />The Go COMO Black Route will detour around the closure beginning May 18. To avoid the closure on South Sixth Street, buses will use Elm Street, South Fifth Street and Conley Avenue before returning to their regular route.<br /><br />The northbound Black Route bus shelter at South Sixth Street and Noyels Hall will be closed until March 31, 2028. Riders who use this stop should use the bus stop at Tiger Avenue and Conley Avenue.</div>
