(COLUMBIA, MO) -
At 4:58 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, firefighters were dispatched to a laboratory facility in the 4000 block of Discovery Parkway Drive for a reported building fire.

While crews were responding, Boone County Joint Communications received multiple 911 calls from the facility confirming an active fire inside one of the building’s laboratories.

The first fire company arrived within four minutes of dispatch. Employees were evacuating the building, smoke was visible inside, and the building’s fire-safety systems had activated. While assisting evacuees, firefighters initially deployed a 200-foot hose line to reach the fire.

As additional companies arrived, crews supported the fire attack, searched the building for occupants, controlled utilities, and ventilated the structure. The incident was brought under control within approximately 30 minutes.

No injuries were reported. Firefighters successfully contained the damage to a device inside a single room within the laboratory. The cause of the fire is electrical and nature unintentional.
